The Learning Imperative

The Learning Imperative Podcast Interview

I had the great pleasure of being on The Learning Imperative podcast with Shawn Hunter and Michelle Braden.

Although we originally planned to talk about Pivotal (which we did), we spent a lot of time talking about my 2005 book, Goal-Free Living. In fact, this podcast was a perfect example of a goal-free podcast. No preparation. No questions in advance. No scripting. We just let things unfold. Or as I say in Goal-Free Living, we “meandered with purpose.”

Although we didn’t have a goal, plan, or outline, we ended up in a much better place because the conversation really flowed. This was a fun one!

I’ve known Shawn for over a dozen years, and we’ve collaborated on many different projects, including developing an eLearning program based on my content. Smart guy.

On the call, I met Michelle, who was named the 2023 Chief Learning Officer of the Year. Brilliant.

Take a listen. I think you’ll love this one!

Here are the official show notes:

In this latest podcast, Shawn and Michelle chat with Stephen Shapiro, an innovation expert and author of ‘Pivotal.’ They explore why it’s so important to be distinctive and desirable in our constantly changing world. Stephen talks about “meandering with purpose” and why focusing on your capabilities is more valuable than just concentrating on your products or services. They also discuss setting aspirations instead of strict goals and the power of conversation and learning from real-world experiences. The overall message of the podcast is clear: to stay relevant, we need to be adaptable, leverage our strengths, and keep learning from everything we encounter.
